PATV on the cover of Hoopla Magazine

PATV is featured on the cover of the latest edition of Hoopla Magazine. Kelsey Sheehy interviews Josh Goding and Emily Ashenfelter about your Neighborhood Network. The discussion includes PATV’s reporting during Iowa City’s 2006 tornado, the station’s latest contract renewal, and freedom of expression on television. The image on the cover of the magazine is from The Smartest Iowan game show’s Iowa City Kirkwood Community College tournament. The first episode of the tournament will be airing on December 16th at 8p Central. Following episodes will air on December 23rd & 30th at 8p, and the final on January 6th at 8p. Images of PATV programs in the article include Education Exchange, Iowa City Video Game Show, Mind of HawkEvil, Newsline Iowa City, and Raw Food’s with Jacob. Check out the article on Hoopla’s site. You can also find the free magazine at various locations throughout the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Cultural Corridor.

PATV: The Real Deal; don’t be fooled by imitations!– also posted in Save Access

I wish that was a joke, but sadly no. And imitation being the most sincere form of flattery aside, the unfortunate truth is that there are one or more unauthorized websites currently associating their own organizations and fund-raising schemes with PATV. Don’t be fooled! — Apart from this site, and a youtube & google.video account, there are NO websites affiliated with this PATV station.

www.patv.tv is the place to check for all your Iowa City PATV news and updates (or give us a call at 338-7035, or email contact@patv.tv). Measures are being taken to remove the offending sites, but it’s a big internet: hard to keep an eye on all of it.

In the meantime, just remember that www.patv.tv is the sole authorized web domain for Public Access Television in Iowa City & Coralville, and don’t be fooled by dem rascally impostors! Thanks, and sorry for any confusion!

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming…

I’m delighted to be able to say: PATV has reopened and is almost fully functional again! It went from a TV station to a tangled mound of cables and back in record time!

With the high waters leaving as quick as they came, it’s back to business usual(?) here at the center.  And with the threat of imminent doom receding (for now) like so much brown sludge water, how can one not be filled with a new sense of gratitude, and a new resolve  to utilize this tiny beacon of free expression to its fullest potential? Nobody, fella! That’s who!

And thus and so! Three cheers for keepin’ dry! Let’s get out there and make the best ol’ PATV programming the world’s ever done did seen? Yeah!!!

The Great Flood of ‘08

PATV is currently closed due to the floods; we’ve been very lucky so far and it looks like we may just be able to get through this and stay dry, though one hates to jump the gun on a statement like that. Most all of PATV’s gear has already been moved to higher ground, in the event that the building does start to take on water. If not & all goes well, we may be able to have the center reassembled and reopened for business as early as Monday the 23rd.

In the meantime, if you have series tapes or DVDs to drop off for playback you can leave them in our mailbox, which we’ll be checking at least once a day.

Check back here for updates and info. and we’ll be sure to keep you informed as the news develops. Thanks for your support and patience, and stay dry!

UPDATE: We’ve begun the reconstruction, and should be mostly re-assembled and open for business Monday the 23rd!

Ready, go!– also posted in Local Events, Save Access

2008’s off with a bang! The 1st month’s nearly over, and it was about as jam-packed with rumors and speculation as one would hope in these rumored, speculative times.

But breathe easy (for now), dear viewers: the Iowa City PEG channels are (allegedly) safe for another year (i.e.: the check’s in the mail). So come down to the station today and start making the kind of programming you want to see on television. Take the opportunity to exercise your very own freedom of speech and put your vision right there on the beast: the small screen: the all-mighty tube, for friends, neighbors and strangers alike to see. Don’t let’s watch the access channels slip away without milking ‘em for all they’re worth, people! (And I mean that in the best way possible, hey.)

January’s done, here’s hoping February is twice as productive and 1/2 as tense. Thanks and g’night, ladies and gents!

P.S. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to the “Democracy Now” fund! I’m happy say that we received enough donations to maintain our “Free Speech TV” subscription and continue airing episodes of the award winning, daily independent news program “Democracy Now” for another year. I know a lot of people really rely on this show for their news, and PATV is only too glad to be able to help bring it to you.

The World Wide Interwebs!

Some unrelated but impeccably timed problems had left PATV without email or even a website for a bit there, but I believe things are back in tip-top shape once again. However, should you experience troubles with either, please don’t hesitate to let us know (our phone lines have thus far been unscathed, knock on wood)!

2 Changes of Date!– also posted in Local Events

Thanks to everyone who came to the Annual Meeting last night; it was, in spite of formidable technical setbacks, a rousing success!

In addition to welcoming two new members to the board of directors, the Producer and Volunteer Awards Presentation Ceremony, and the essential dining and mingling portion of the evening,* there were a couple of important date changes announced:

1)PATV SILENT ART AUCTION. Previously scheduled for Dec. 6th, this has been pushed back till sometime in February. But don’t feel sad, the wait will be more than made up for by the level of “Silent Art Auction Grandeur” we can achieve with this extra time. So for anybody just learning about the event now: there is still plenty of time for interested parties to donate their artwork to the auction. Call or email us for more info.

2)BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING. The December meeting (which, as always, is open to the public) has been moved up from Thursday the 20th to Thursday the 13th.

*Special thanks to Alyssa Bowman for her generous donation of food and drink, and her impeccable sense of decoration and arrangement at the Annual Meeting!
