Tack-Fu’s award winning PSA: Taxi Driver PSA. “I was given the task of making a PSA for Public Access Television (PATV) in Iowa City. The goal of the video was to raise public awareness about the workshops and video equipment we offer to the public. The intern at PATV, Erik Skaden, was looking kind’a bored around the studio so I decided to put him to work. Since he drives a taxi on the weekends to help pay his bills, I decided this PSA has to have taxi theme…Martin Scoreses’s Taxi Driver that is! I wrote the script in about 15 min. using bits & pieces of dialogue from Rober DeNiro’s character in the movie, Travis Bickle, and then I changed up the wording to fit the goal of the PSA. The next night, while Erik was driving around town looking for fares, I rode along with my camera and just started shooting what ever caught my eye…but in the back of my mind, I was using the movie as a template for certain camera angles and lighting. Using final cut pro for editing, myself and Josh Goding did some final color correction and visual additions to the lighting to really give it effect. The piece turned out great! Step back Martin Scoreses! There’s a new film director in town…and his name is Tack-Fu!”
